Essential Job Summary:

The Operations Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that solid waste materials are processed efficiently, on schedule, and according to approved procedures. This position involves the inspection of materials received at the Transfer Station, and includes determining and preventing the disposal of unauthorized, disallowed and/or incompatible materials at the Transfer Station. The Operations Supervisor oversees the operations of the tipping areas.

 

The work may also include the operation of various plant equipment, as well as participating in the work of the crew. The Operations Supervisor works under the direct supervision of the Director of Post Collections. Direct supervision is exercised over the work of Equipment Operators, Laborers, and Scale Operators. The Operations Supervisor is responsible for directing, planning and assigning the work of employees involved in these positions.

  • Supervises and works with crew in the processing of solid waste materials.
  • Reviews and evaluates work to ensure quality, timeliness and ensures quality control in adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates the loading of trailers and the unloading of materials.
  • Inspects equipment regularly to ensure proper operation or condition.
  • Work closely with maintenance dept that scheduled maintenance is done to ensure plant is running at optimum performance.
  • Executes necessary precautions to ensure safety and compliance with Company OSHA, and other standards and regulations
  • Monitors the quality of materials being received by facility and notifies haulers and supervisory personnel of irregularities.
  • Takes photographs of materials for documentation of violations; Oversees tipping work area to ensure organized operations.
  • Provides information to subordinate workers regarding materials inspection and tipping floor operations.
  • Oversees personnel needs of the department including selecting, coaching, disciplining, and training employees and evaluating employee performance. Provides input into termination, compensation and promotion decisions
  • Formulates both short-term and long-term goals and action plans in conjunction with the Director of Post Collections.
  • Participates in regular P&L reviews to ensure that budgets are met; develops and implements programs for optimal equipment utilization, equipment maintenance and labor and material costs
  • Works with functional groups to resolve employee relations and labor relations issues
  • Must be able to work a changing shift schedule to oversee all facets of the operations when they are occurring. Episodic overnight and weekend shifts are necessary
  • Coordinate with transportation teams for inbound and outbound material flows
  • Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence
  • Foster a positive work environment focused on safety and productivity

 

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • 3-8 years of experience in waste management operations
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience in waste management, transportation, and/or logistics services
  • Associate’s degree or higher in Business, Logistics, or related field preferred or equivalent in work experience
  • Experience implementing safety (OSHA) programs and equipment specifications
  • Proven ability to work efficiently with minimal direct supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate others to achieve results
  • Proven experience meeting business commitments, driving change and implementing process improvements
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite or related software
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all kinds of weather.
  • Proven experience in managing labor relations in a unionized environment
  • Excellent computer skills with the ability to handle multiple programs and systems.

Salary Range Minimum

USD $90,000.00/Yr.

Salary Range Maximum

USD $115,000.00/Yr.
